Yu-Hsiang Shen, M.A., lecturer at the Department of Oriental Linguistics, Faculty of Linguistics at Kazimierz Wielki University in Bydgoszcz, specialises in corpus linguistics, metaphor studies, and the didactics of Chinese as a foreign language. In 2024, he co-organised the international academic conference Sinologists in Bydgoszcz.
As part of his Erasmus+ teaching mobility, Shen conducted a series of workshops at the Department of Chinese Studies at Masaryk University in Brno (Czech Republic), focusing on traditional Chinese art and craftsmanship as part of his Erasmus+ teaching mobility.
The programme consisted of five thematic sessions:
-
Ink-blowing art (吹墨) – painting using blown ink
-
Paper lanterns and riddles (紙燈籠) – crafting lanterns and solving traditional puzzles
-
Chinese decorative knots (中國結) – symbolic knots bringing luck and meaning
-
Chinese seal engraving (篆刻) – creating personal carved stamps
-
Thread-bound bookbinding (線裝書) – assembling books in the classical Chinese style
Each workshop included a short cultural introduction followed by hands-on practice. Participants were actively engaged and appreciated the chance to experience Chinese culture through creativity and collaboration.
The mobility was an excellent opportunity for academic exchange, cultural enrichment, and the development of new forms of international cooperation.
